"Kriegsorden des Deutschen Kreuzes"(DK). Even with the various classes of the Iron Cross, Hitler felt that there was still the need of a decoration to recognise an accumulation of repeated or continuous military achievements, particularly at the Front. On 28 September 1941, during the early stages of the assault on Moscow, he filled this perceived gap by creating the impressive star-shaped War Order of the German Cross, or Kriegsorden des Deutschen Kreuzes(DK). Hitlers original intention had been to call the new and overtly award the "Order of the Swastika".
